Amazing Savings

Organic foods are expensive.  This is one of the main reasons why many people feel like they cannot afford a healthy lifestyle.  I know that I used to feel this way to some extent.  Even now, I make the choice not to always eat organic foods simply because of price.  However, there may be solution to this problem: discount grocery stores!

Last post I mentioned that I took an amazing trip last weekend, and boy was it amazing!

It is always an amazing time at AMAZING SAVINGS!

What is Amazing Savings, and why am I blogging about it?

It is a small grocery store that offers organic and gourmet products at 30% to 50% off retail prices!  It is a local, family owned and operated grocery store with locations in Western North Carolina as well as South Carolina.  Check out the Amazing Savings website for specific location information!

It surely doesn’t look like much from the outside.

But one is certain to find some bargains inside!

The official list of swag:

  • Mixed veggie chips
  • Free range chicken broth
  • Organic roasted red pepper and tomato
  • Organic vegetable broth
  • Garlic basil coconut rice
  • Sugar plum spice tea
  • Candy cane lane tea
  • Gingerbread spice tea
  • Good earth black tea-tropical peach
  • Red safari spice tea
  • Organic hojicha chai tea  (x2)
  • Canned apricot halves (x2)
  • Pritkin reduced sodium split pea soup
  • Lakewood pomegranate with cranberry juice
  • Carrot orange juice
  • Nutmeg grinder
  • Wasabi peas snack mix

FYI- I didn’t buy close to as much as I usually do!  At home, I already had a ton of organic cereal, rice, chocolate, sugars, and flour from previous trips.

I bet you can’t  guess how much I paid for my goodies…!

The total came to $20!  If I were shopping at a regular grocery store. I would have spent about that much on the tea alone!

Here’s the catch: a lot of what Amazing Savings has for sale is past the recommended use by date.  But a lot of it is not. For example, the teas that I purchased have a use by date in 2011.  I drink A LOT of tea in one day, so I know that I will have consumed my tea by then!  I have never purchased anything at Amazing Savings that is past the use by date, so I cannot advise as to whether or not eating old products is a good idea.  Personally, I probably would not try it.  Even a good deal is not worth the possibility of getting sick or eating stale food!

If you live near an Amazing Savings, I would highly suggest checking it out!  It is certainly one of my new favorite places!  Move over Whole Foods!  If you don’t live near an Amazing Savings, maybe some internet research will help you locate a similar type of store where you can purchase discounted organic and health foods.

Have you ever been to a discounted health food store?  What are some of your tips for getting good bargains on organic foods?
