Processed Delight

Who’s excited about the upcoming long weekend?  I definitely am!  Especially because mine will feel like it’s beginning early.  I’m leaving tomorrow after work for a psychology conference.  I love conferences, so this will be a pre-weekend treat. :-)   The conference is in Charleston, which is where Stephen is currently living as he finishes up his graduate degree.

I can’t wait.  I’m all ready to go!

I’ve even packed some food stuffs in preparation for spending a long weekend with Stephen’s pantry.  For a male, Stephen eats fairly healthfully, but he’s the kind of person that forgets to eat all day long, and finally, at 7 p.m., he’s ravenous.

I’ve never understood people who live like this.  I like meal time.  I really, really, really look forward to eating, so there’s just no way that breakfast or lunch could ever slip me by.  Not to mention the fact that I snack numerous times a day.

Let’s just say that Stephen’s food inventory is sorely lacking in snack foods.  So, I will be bringing some snack foods to Stephen’s kitchen in order to keep my tummy happy.

tripfood

I’ve packed some Pop Secret, Kavli crackers, oranges, a pomegranate, and some teas.  Plus, some Bob’s Red Mill 10 Grain Cereal for my breakfasts.

Breakfast

Another attempt at both overnight oats and oats in a jar.  Overnight oats were a bust once again.  Absolutely no water absorption on the part of the oatmeal.

However, oats in a jar was much more flavorful than yesterday.  The leftover pear butter gave the oatmeal a tart sweetness.oats2

I nuked the oats in the microwave and added flaxseed meal with a sprinkle of the dried cranberry, cashew, and almond trail mix.

grape

I washed it down with 6 ounces of this.

T’was a satisfying breakfast, but I will resume the usual Green Monster breakfast tomorrow morning.  I’ve already prepped it. :-)

Lunch

I tried another of these Rice Treat things.  I was prepared for the worst considering yesterday’s experience.  But this one was actually pretty good.  The flavor was just so much better!

I mixed half of last night’s veggie mixture into the rice.

I don’t have a picture of the ensemble, as I would feel quite awkward if someone saw me take a picture of my food while I’m at work.

Dinner

You all are going to love this one.  It’s a blast from a past life.

I’m not kidding!  I really ate this.  I’ve had it in my freezer for about 6 months now.

Since I’m going out of town tomorrow, I’m a little low on food.  Plus, when I got home from Group Power, I was starving.  When I opened my freezer, and feasted my eyes upon this goodness, I thought, “what the heck?”.  So, here it is in all its glory!

frozen meal

I’m not really a fan of gravy, so i left that off.  Not to mention, it was one of those packets that you have to heat under warm water until it thaws out, and  I just have no patience for those things.

I haven’t eaten anything so processed in months, and until tonight, I hadn’t really wanted to.

This meal was so worth every bite of the fake chicken and the preservatives.  I don’t have a single regret!

I used to eat something similar to this every day!  Can you believe that?  I’ve come a long way.

At least I paired it with some fresh, mustard green chips…

I hope you’ve all been well.  Glad to hear that a lot of you are just as fanatical about LOST as I am!

Two questions for tonight:

1) Do you eat a lot of processed foods?

2) Do you feel guilty when you splurge on certain treats?  I can honestly say that I don’t feel a bit of guilt after splurging.  However, sometimes if I splurge too much, I’ll get a sick feeling in my stomach. I really dislike that feeling, and it tends to remind me of why I may not want to indulge so much the next time!

  1. I take it Stephen is your bf? Or husband? Nick, my bf, is one of those guys who can wake up and not eat for hours, yet be ok. I am so confused by this. I mean, I wake up and go right for the kitchen, thinking about nothing else but coffee and oats! haha

I don’t feel guilty eating foods, but like you I sometimes feel guilty about eating past my “Signals saying STOP!”. When my stomach hurts a bit, that’s when I know I’ve gone a bit too far. Not good.

Stephen is my boyfriend, and he sounds exactly like Nick! That food philosophy is truly baffling!

  3. I don’t eat a lot of processed foods… I empties my house of all and everything processed in March and don’t allow it in the house even by visitors..

hahaha omg i know what oyu mean-i could never forget to eat!! i eat processed foods- and i really dont feel guilty- it is a part of life, you know? & i try not to feel guilty for indulging but it is so ahrd to avoid the feeling fo rme.

  5. I used to eat Lean Cuisines all the time. Honestly now, I’ve had like 9 months! CRAZY!
I do feel guilty (and should stop) when I over indulge. Not necessarily just have a treat, but over indulge. I swear the minute I have an extra cookie or two, my thighs feel bigger. I don’t know why I feel this way, but I do. Weird.

Hey!! Thanks so swing by my blog! Made my day=) I actually dont eat processed foods hardly at all. I have a few products here and there but thats about it (Barney butter!! Cant live without it=) I find my body cant tolerate processed food. So I steer clear. Since I do eat really clean I dont feel bad about the occasional indulgence. I keep them in check and then get back to the gym and healthy eats the next day. No reason to feel guilty. Its life=) I hope you have a fabulous day!!

  7. I have never seen pear butter before! That sounds divine.
I eat frozen foods a lot, but they are usually Kashi or Trader Joes so not too bad.

  8. I’m SO excited for a three day weekend- yay! I can never not eat breakfast or lunch- my blood sugar gets low and I feel like I’m going to faint if I do.

Processed foods.. yeah, I guess I do. I’m trying to cut them out. Right now I’ve been having Amy’s organic vegetarian burritos for lunch and I’ve been telling myself they are healthy but at the end of the day, they’re still processed.

I don’t feel guilty when I splurge, unless it’s something that I don’t really want and I eat it just because it’s there. I try not to do that though.

    Pear butter looks awesome!

So excited about the long weekend! Sorry your OIAJ were a bust. I’ve never tried overnight oats, too scared.

Guess what? Netflix is here. My final disc of Lost: season 5! So sad! Soo soo sad!

Anyway. I do eat some processed food, but not as my main meal, mostly just for snacks. I just prefer whole foods, and I love cooking, so it works out well.
What’s wrong with splurging on some treats? Splurge = occasional, thus it’s a splurge, and an occasional excessive dessert is totally ok!

I love breakfast! Like Gina said, I don’t get it when people don’t have breakfast or “need” breakfast. I’m hungry in the morning!

Everything looks wonderful! I try not to eat too many processed foods, and I try and limit them by just doing more cooking. And I do feel guilty about splurges. More so than splurges, though, I hate feeling like I overeat at times. I’m always miserable afterwards! Great post!

  12. glidingcalm says:

those mustard green chips look awesome!!! i STILL havent tried kale chips! (i know, i know!)

and yahhhhhhhh, I’m not a big fan of gravy either!

    Happy Friday!!! :D

Ugh I NEVER understood people like that either! My brother is super tall/skinny and also suuuper lazy, so he basically never eats. I used to feel obligated to feed him, but I realized after a while, that eventually he will eat. In time. And when he does, he eats a lot! I just could never live like that.

I think about my snacks as I’m eating breakfast, lunch.. etc. But we’re healthier for it! :)

  14. I try to eat as many whole foods as possible. My weakness is protein powder and Splenda!

  15. OMG. for a microwave splurge MC is the way to go! I eat processed foods when I eat all my little kashi bars and stuff. I’m trying to eat better bars such as the luna and lara bars though. I had a bad addiction to southbeach frozen pizza a few years back. :P
