Amazing Savings Road Trip

Hello, hello!  I hope you are all having a better Monday than I am.  I haven’t felt so hot today.  I left internship around 10 a.m. because I was experiencing some flu-like symptoms.  I am starting to feel a bit better as the day wears on, but I’m not sure if work is in the cards for tomorrow or not.

***

Moving on, I want to share my trip to Amazing Savings that I mentioned in my last post

FYI for new readers: Amazing Savings is a discount grocery store that offers items for 30% to 80% off regular retail price.  The majority of the products they carry are organic.  There is one small catch to shopping at Amazing Savings-a large portion of the products they carry are past the sell by date.  However, much of Amazing Saving’s merchandise is still within date.  You just have to look at each individual item before it is placed in your cart!

This past weekend, Stephen and I decided to take a road trip to Black Mountain, North Carolina: home of the largest Amazing Savings location!

excited

I was excited to say the least!

amazing savings

Here it is!  It is much larger than the Easley store.

lilamsave

aisle

This aisle was devoted to crackers.

datecheck

Searching for the sell by date on a Dr. Kracker product.

tea2

The highlight of my day was perusing the tea aisle.

All of these teas were priced at $1.99, a bit steep compared to the Easley location, which sells them for $1.29.

However, the price difference didn’t stop me from purchasing 16 boxes of tea to add to my collection!  $1.99 is still an amazing deal.

tea

The tea aisle was never ending.  Stephen practically had to carry me away from it.

Eden Organic! My favorite brand of tea!

shopping cart

This cart includes $75 dollars worth of wallet damage.

Here are the goods:

A few items of interest:

  • 3 bottles of kefir for $1.99 each.  I had never tried kefir before, but it tastes wonderful!  Especially the plain variety.  It’s like greek yogurt in liquid form.
  • Food Should Taste Good Buffalo Chips- $0.60
  • Jenson’s Orchard Spinach and Artichoke Chips for $0.60.  If you see these in the grocery store, DO NOT pass them up!
  • Fage 2%, a 4 cup tub for $1.99.
  • Ceres Litchi Juice for $1.50.  I’d never tried anything litchi flavored before, and I was kind of disappointed.  It was nothing special.
  • Yumberry Juice for $2.50.  This stuff has a tart and sweet flavor that is awesome!

Don’t worry, I got more for my $75 than pictured above!

Items of interest:

  • Veggie pasta- $0.99
  • Bob’s Red Mill Coconut Flour- $2.49
  • Bob’s Red Mill Chocolate Cake Mix- $1.79
  • Bob’s Red Mill Apple Spice Cake Mix- $1.49
  • Bob’s Red Mill Amaranth Flour- $2.50
  • Canterbury Naturals Apple Cake Mix- $1.49
  • Mung beans- can’t remember price
  • Sucanat- $0.99 a pound
  • Bulgur wheat- can’t remember price

And…I can’t forget to show you my new teas!

What is your favorite grocery store?

Oh my God, I have never heard of this place, but it looks, well, amazing! I’m gonna have to see where the closest one to me is. Wow! Nothing excites me like a bargain. ;)

  2. You went tea CRAZY!! What’s the catch with this store? I feel like everything is expired. Why must I be such a cynic.

  3. Lily says:

Ashley, they only have locations in SC and NC :-(

Are you kidding me!!??? That store is awesome! I’m going to NC State or Clemson now, JUST because of Amazing Savings.
I could definatly go through 16 boxes of tea. This is such a fun post!! :-D

  5. OMG. I have never ever heard of such a place. Now I am contemplating going to NC just to go and buy a million kinds of tea. Too cool. I have family in SC, hope I remember this place next time I visit.

*2 great giveaways going on @ monicaonthego.com, yoga mat bag and perfume/lip gloss gift set*

  6. Wow what an awesome lot of groceries! I go to Whole Foods. I know people get upset about the prices but I can always find exactly what I need. I find that I can save money by using their “Whole Deal” coupons and their 365 brand. However, I wish we had an AMAZING SAVINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it a chain? I must google it.

  7. Man I wish we had Amazing Savings in New York! I love Whole Foods but not the prices!

  8. Tim S. says:

WOW!! that is a lot of tea. I usually prefer mint or berry flavored tea, but I have to say the pumpkin spice tea sounds very good :) . You should do a post reviewing the different variety of teas in your collection.

  9. Keri says:

Wow! I wish we had one of those nearby! Hope you feel better. And totally jealous of your tea collection, btw.

  10. Lee says:

OOh, how far is that from Clemson? Easley is pretty close, right? I might have to take a detour next time we visit Jason’s family.

    I like Trader Joe’s a lot.

  11. WOW that tea collection looks amazing. I love the Yogi throat comfort when I’m not feeling that great. I’ve never heard of that place but it looks fantastic.

  12. Woa- I wish we had a store like that around here! I’d be in foodie heaven
I’m loving all the new flours you bought! You’ll have to bake with them and share what you think :)

  13. Shelley says:

WHAT! i wish we had one of those places around here, SO MANY great deals you scored! lucky girl! wow check out that cracker aisle. and the tea. i’m so jealous! you’re adorable, btw, all excited for the store ( i would be too!)

  15. Dang, girl! You scored!

There’s a grocery store in my ‘hood called HyVee…they are not a discount store but I can get 90 percent of the groceries on my list there and the dietitians know me by name. Cause I’m friendly like that. ;-)

  16. HOLY SH*T. You got all that stuff for sooo cheap! And they are quality goods! JEALOUS. I end up spending 200 PLUS on stuff sometimes :(

  17. I LOVE a bargain!! You hit the jackpot.. I am a huge tea fan so I woulda freaked out!! :)

  18. Rachel says:

Sooo I think I’m going to visit Amazing Savings on Saturday! Especially now that you’ve listed the prices of the things you got… like the Bob’s products, which I love, but are so expensive.

  19. Lily says:

Rachel, which location are you going to go to? Here’s the website with all of their locations: http://www.amazingsavingsmarkets.com/. The ones in Black Mountain and Asheville have by far the most products!

  20. AnnQ says:

Oh, nice finds — I loooove Tea! I have it every morning :-)

  21. Nicole, RD says:

Amaranth and coconut flour — I need to add those to my flour table! I’ve never heard of those! I love anything Red Mill, though!

  22. Color me jealous! My favorite grocery store is Sprouts, which is an Arizona and California chain of “whole foods like” stores. Their produce is amazing and the cheapest in town!

  23. No way! I want a place like that, here! We have cheap grocery stores, obviously, but they also only sell cheap foods and cheap brands. We have a place called Marc’s that is starting to get some of the “Better” brands like that you mention in this post, but it’s a slow adaptation for them. I want to go to North Carolina JUST to go to this store!! I’m all about good deals.

  24. janetha b says:

  26. Kacy says:

Wow!! That’s a lot of loot for 75 bucks! I’m impressed!

    Feel better!

  27. I feel like the tea cabinet at my parents house is never-ending. I love it!! I haven’t seen one of these stores near where I live. Trader Joe’s is definitely my favorite.

  28. Haleigh says:

I love TJ’s!!! This Amazing Savings place seems pretty awesome too.

  29. Garrett says:

We go to Aldi’s a lot for good cheap. Price Chopper has good meat.

  30. I hope that you feel better soon! You made quite the killing, wow! Everything looks great, although I am really jealous of your apple cider tea purchase. My favorite grocery store is Wegmans. There isn’t one around me unfortunately- the stores around here just don’t compare! :(

  31. Tess says:

There’s a similar store near my hometown called The Grocery Outlet Bargain Market. They sell tons of organic foods plus Nature’s Gate, Jason, and Tom products, all for less than half of what they go for usually! I just bought a bunch of Yogi Tea for $1.29 a box!
