Friday evening brought snow to the entire state of South Carolina!  And not just flurries.  This was the real deal.  I’m not one to get excited about snow (I grew up in the Midwest), but this truly was something.

I left home around 4 p.m., and as I drove, it was snowing hard all the way down 26 to Charleston.  At one point, traffic was in a 30 minute standstill.  I snapped a picture of the other side of the highway.

When I reached Charleston, I was shocked to see the snow coming down!  Once I arrived at Stephen’s house, we made dinner and settled in to watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics.  We watched for about 15 minutes, when the tv clicked off and the room became pitch black.  The power had gone out!  With nothing to do, and no candles or flashlights to help give us some light, we decided to take a drive and check out the snow-covered city of Charleston.

We drove around The Citadel and watched the cadets build snowmen.  Then we drove through downtown and back to Hampton Park.  I really did not want to get out of the car, as I was not properly dressed for cold weather.  But Stephen insisted that we brave the chill. snowlsnow1snow2

I was absolutely frozen solid and wanted to get this jaunt over with.

I think my facial expression and foggy glasses say it all.  Charleston is supposed to be warm.

For Stephen and I’s Valentine’s Day celebration, we went shopping!  I promised I would buy him a new pair of running shoes as his V-Day present.  He’s had the same pair of shoes for almost 2 years now, so I was more than happy to purchase him a new pair.  After perusing shoes at several stores, Stephen finally found a comfy pair at the Adidas outlet.

Ta da!  I hope you get many miles out of these, Stephen!

After shopping, we stopped at one of our favorite places: Barnes and Noble.  I never buy anything, but I just love sifting through the books and discovering potential reads to pick up at the library.

Stephen ended up buying some Clive Cussler books.

After Barnes and Noble, we hit up one of our favorite restaurants for dinner.

We love this place!  And it turned out that they were having a buy one get one free entree special.  You can’t beat that!jas food

Happy Valentine’s Day to all!  This picture is from Valentine’s Day last year.

It was a truly special V-Day.  Not only because it was my first Valentine’s spent in the same country with Stephen (the year before, he was in Afghanistan serving our country), but because this was the day we discovered our deep love for red curry!  An important day, indeed!

Enjoy the last few hours of your holiday!

What’s one food you recently discovered, and you now have no idea how you lived your life without it?

That is exactly what I do! I love going to book stores and just perusing everything. Then saving the dough by hitting up the holds list at my library :D I also like going to the site bookmovement.com and going through their long list of top books one page at a time (I’m only at page 30 of like 500!) and putting things on hold that seem to interest me. It hasn’t steered me wrong yet. :)

I thought our snow here in southeast VA was crazy, but that’s even nuttier! And my family down in Atlanta got pummeled too! It’s been an insane winter.
Your Thai dinner looks so yummy. I got sick of that stuff after working in a Thai restaurant for a while, but now it all looks so yummy.
I recently discovered PB2 powdered peanut butter and now I try to find a reason to eat it daily or put it in baked goods. So yummy and healthy!!

  10. So glad you had a nice Valentine’s day, despite the nasty weather. But it’s fun getting out and playing in the snow sometimes, right?! I can’t believe the power went out! I hope that doesn’t happen here, we are supposed to get 9 inches today, yikes.

I knew I loved quinoa, but recently I have fallen in love with it all over again. That and sweet potatoes!! I eat them both everyday and couldn’t live without them. The coconut milk I send you will be perfect for your red curry!!
