The Return of the Falafel

First thing’s first.  Don’t forget to enter my Mary’s Gone Cracker’s giveaway!!  The contest ends on Friday.

So, today’s eats weren’t so exciting.  I’ve been very busy lately, and my meals reflect that!  I’m still eating healthfully.  I just haven’t had time to eat creatively.

Breakfast

 cereal

Breakfast was Nature’s Path Optimum Cranberry Ginger cereal.  I’ve finally finished this box!  It wasn’t my favorite.  Nothing against Nature’s Path.  I just keep forgetting that I’m not a huge fan of foods containing ginger.

Lunch

No pic of lunch.  It consisted of an apple, hempseed with leftover rice from last night, and vanilla Oikos.  Random, right?  I didn’t think you really wanted to see a picture of those foods.

Dinner

The return of the falafel.

falafel

This time with hummus and Ezekiel bread.

din

And vegetables.  I bought all of these precut veggies for $2.00 at the grocery store.  I thought it was a good deal, especially considering I didn’t have to cry in order to eat my onion!

walnut oil

I sautéed the veggies in this La Tourangelle Roasted Walnut Oil.  I purchased it at Amazing Savings back in January.  This was the first time I had used it, and I liked it a lot!  It added a rich, nutty flavor to my vegetables.

FYI- A little internet research just informed me that you really aren’t supposed to cook with walnut oil because it takes on a bitter flavor when heated to high temps.  It is best used as an addition to cold pasta or salad dressing.  Oh well, my veggies tasted great!

So, which of my statements was a truth?

1) In college, I studied abroad in Australia.

2) I’ve seen Snoop Dogg in concert.

3) 8 years after graduating from high school, I still hold my alma mater’s cross country record.

4) I was in my middle school’s cake decorating club.

5) I have a secret desire to open my own cat grooming business.

6) I want to own a golden retriever one day.

7) I’m naturally a red head.

#4 was the only correct answer.

In middle school, we had a designated “club time” once a month.  Each student had to choose a club, and it was a complicated match process.  My best friend Faith and I wanted to end up in the same club, so we each chose cake decorating in hopes there would be little interest from other 8th graders, giving us a better chance of both being able to join.

Our plan worked!  And to be honest, cake decorating club was pretty darn fun!

A few of you chose #2.  (Including Stephen!)

I’ve really only seen rock artists in concert.  Usually I don’t like rap (except for my Ying Yang twins obsession), but I would totally see Snoop Dogg if the opportunity presented itself.  I watched the “Murder was the Case” music video countless times back in the day!

Should I really have been watching MTV as a 12-year-old?

And to those of you who chose #3, I’m flattered…

marathon

But have you seen the mile splits I’ve posted on this blog??  They definitely aren’t the splits of a cross country champion!  I ran cross country in middle school, and I was the slowest girl on the team!  Well, there were two girls who consistently walked, but even they beat me sometimes!!  Needless to say, I stuck to volleyball and basketball in high school.

#6 was also a popular choice.

pookie

But I already have a golden retriever!  Remember Pookie?

Stephen desperately wants a “real” golden one day.  And don’t get me wrong, I think they’re absolutely beautiful dogs, but I’m definitely not ready for dog commitment.  Dogs come with a lot of responsibility!  Plus, I prefer the ease of cats…

How is it already 10 o’clock?  It’s time for bed!

Question: What organized sports have you played in your lifetime?

  1. haha I was wrong. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a cake decorating club, but that’s pretty cool (especially for middle school)!

  2. Lee says:

    I played rugby in college.

When I was a little kid, I played soccer.

  3. I didn’t know cake decorating clubs existed in High School!
I’ve never really played orgaised sports – I don’t know if dressage and endurance riding count!? And running!? At least the races are organised :)
    Oh, and GINGER cereal!??Eeww :(

  4. Tina says:

That sounds like it would have been a fun club. Although I still say your running times impress me because I am for sure not a runner. ;)

And I participated in gymnastics, cheerleading, and cross country growing up. But cross country was my weakest. I mainly did it because all of my closest friends were on the team and it was so much fun.

  5. Ashley says:

Those falafels look so. delicious. Even though I’m eating Kashi!

I’ve never blogged about it, but I was on the equestrian team in college. I wasn’t very good (it’s hard to be good at any sport when you weigh 30 pounds!) but my senior year (after I started to lose weight) I got a little better. I haven’t ridden since I graduated, but I’m going to get back into it eventually — I’m lighter and stronger, which can only make a better rider!

p.s. Drama gives the Beatrice photo one non-opposable thumb up. ;)

  6. don’t laugh..I use to be in crosscountry!! I was pretty good and leannnnnn then I switched my concentration to choir and academics. :P So now I’m SEMIII smart but not as fast. Must get back to my training ASAP! BTW great running action shot! :) I also buy some prepacked veggies: the brocolli in a bag…SO EASY but expensive. :(

  7. I love walnut oil, I haven’t had it in ages. I’m on a grapeseed oil kick right now which is for use in high temps.

I was a big snoop fan at one point in my life. Kind of funny, actually :D

  8. That action shot of you is GREAT!!! :)

I was on my high school cross country and track teams and I also ran club indoor and outdoor track.

  9. That photo of you running is so bad ass! I played softball and volleyball in high school. I was very good at softball; volleyball not so much.

  10. Oh I love the idea of sauteing the veggies in roasted walnut oil! Great idea!
I love that you were in the cake decorating club, I love baking and decorating desserts!
I played lacrosse and soccer. I was so bad at both!

  11. Christine says:

Wow, I was right! Lucky guess :-) I’ve gotta try walnut oil, I am a huge walnut freak and love using them in Vita-Mix dressings. In junior high I played tennis and that’s about it, I always been into biking, rollerblading and running, but never in an organized team.

  12. Keri says:

Thank you for all the great new food ideas…I can’t wait to try some of them. I was a little late in reading your last post, but I would have picked #1 (and would have been wrong!)

I’m so jealous of your 60 degree weather. I find it amazing that it can be 60 degrees one day and then snow the next!

In high school I played soccer, lacrosse and participated in 1 season of track but HATED it. Its funny how things turn out.

  13. I love falafel! NYC has some great middle-eastern places :-)

I ran xc and track all throughout highschool and college. I also had a brief stint with basketball in middle school. It was traumatizing (I was THAT bad at it). Haha.

  14. Those lies are too funny! I could never be in a cake decorating club! I’d eat all the time haha! I love falafel :)

  15. Kacy says:

I’ve seen Snoop in concert! I think I was only like 17 at the time, but he was in town with the Red Hot Chili Peppers (how random is that??) and they were both awesome! Looooots of ganja though. I was so freaked out because I’d never seen drugs before.

    Cake decorating club sounds fun!

  16. Ohhh, walnut oil sounds delicious! I think I would use that on just about everything…especially salads and roasted veggies. YUM!

I played organized sports as a kid, but I grew out of all of them. Soccer, softball, field hockey….they just weren’t for me! It was all so serious, and I didn’t like it. I’d much rather play sports for fun!

  17. cake decorating in middle school… that’s awesome..

  18. Chrysta says:

Hey!! Sounds so fun! I love your falafel. Looks awesome! Ive always wanted to try walnut oil. Looks great! Ive played sssooo many organized sports growing up! soccer, diving, softball, field hockey, cheerleading and swim team. Whew! It was a blast though. Have a fabulous day girl!

  19. Tamizn says:

Marmite is so hard to discribe, maybe you should enter my giveaway, you might get your answer!

  20. Ooh, walnut oil sounds like something that would be great drizzled over roasted veggies!

  21. Simply Life says:

I’ve never tried walnut before but it sounds great!

  22. Kat says:

I’m so late catching up on blogs, but I LOVE THIS!!! I want to decorate cakes as a hobby or to earn pocket change…I need to take one of those classes at Michaels or something, but I don’t want to do it alone!!
