Humnut Cheese Sauce

Good evening!  I hope you all have had a great Tuesday.  Mine was not too shabby.

Exercise

This afternoon, I ran 6 miles outside.  I wasn’t really in the running mood, but I’m glad I got an outdoor run in, considering that beginning tomorrow, it’s supposed to rain here for an entire week!

Breakfast

cerealbox

I had a mixture of Ezekiel 4:9 Almond and Nature’s Path Hemp Plus Granola.  These cereals were purchased at Amazing Savings and Trader Joes, respectively.

cereal

The cereal was served in my new Progresso Soup mug that I won in Total Fit Girl’s giveaway.  I had some Good Earth Pomegranate Superfruit Green Tea on the side.

Lunch

subway2

I had a lot of meetings scheduled, so I had to eat lunch really late.  I knew I’d be on the road a lot, so instead of packing my meal, I planned a lunch time trip to Subway.

subway

I got the buffalo chicken sandwich.  I don’t usually eat the meat from Subway.  I’m not certain of its origins, but I suspect it’s not of the fresh variety.

However, today I was swayed toward meat because of the $5 footlong special.  As I stood in line, I just kept thinking about what a rip off the veggie sub is.  A hoagie roll with a small amount of veggies just didn’t seem cost-effective when I could add meat for free.

I ate half of the sandwich, saving the remainder for tomorrow’s lunch.

Dinner

Dinner was inspired by…..Ohh May.

I’ve been seeing her humnut cheese sauce recipe all over the blogosphere these days.  So, I decided to try my own hand at an Ohh May-style pizza pie.

pizza

I began by flattening Trader Joe’s whole wheat pizza dough onto a pizza pan.

Then I smeared organic tomato paste onto the dough, also adding a sprinkle of crushed red pepper for spice.

pizza4

Next it was time to add accoutrements: kale, roasted red peppers, and artichoke hearts.

pizza5

Finally, it was time for some cheese!

Ohh May’s Humnut Cheese Sauce

  • 2-3 tbsp hummus
  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • A pinch of turmeric to add yellow coloring
  • water to thin

pizza6

Look how rich it is!

I baked my pizza for about 20 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. pizza7

Here’s the final product!

I loved this pizza!  Humnut sauce is  the perfect dairy-free pizza topping.  It would be an amazing cheese substitute drizzled on broccoli or a baked potato.

Dessert

liberte

Looky, looky what I found at Ingles today!  Liberte yogurt on sale for 49 cents!  You can’t beat that!

I had never tried this before, but I am so glad I did!  It was sooooo decadent.  At 6 ounces, 250 calories, 9 grams saturated fat, and 23 grams sugar, this is most definitely a dessert food.

But wow, it’s GOOD.

***

I’m watching this crazy movie on instant Netflix right now.  It’s called Disco Pigs.  Anyone seen it?  It’s so bizarre that it’s kind of interesting….  I wouldn’t really recommend it though.

Questions:

1) What’s your favorite fast food restaurant?

2) Who watched the season finale of Make it or Break It last night?  What did you think?

  2. I loveeee personal pizzas. And May’s humnut sauce is amazing!

What did you think of the Ezekiel Almond cereal? I bought it once and I was struggling to finish it :?

  3. Lily says:

It is ok…I think its kinda like grape nuts. It’s pretty bland though. So, I try to use it as a crunchy oatmeal topper. OR I mix it in with another more flavorful cereal!

  4. Mmm I’ve seen the Humnut sauce around and have been wanting to try it! Love your pizza!
My favorite fast food restaurant is Burger King. God I love that place!

  5. MIOBI definitely should have been 2 hours! There was a lot more they could have packed in there. I thought having Payson compete was just the uber cheese on top of a super cheesy pizza…

  6. Lily says:

Oh yeah. You are so right! But it wouldn’t be MIOBI without the cheese!

49 cents?! I pay almost $6 for my precious Liberte Greek yogurt!! Your pizza looks awesome, the humnut sauce looks perfectly creamy.

  8. 49 cents for that?!?! I had that yog in canada and it was so delicious and in WF its about 2.50 a conatiner!! i have to wait for it to go on sale :)

that pizza looks amazing and so colorful! I love food that is pleasing to the eye!! i do not like fast food at all but if you consider this ‘fast food’ i love panera bread!

  9. Yum! That pizza looks awesome. I can’t eat Nutritional Yeast at the moment but when I can, I will surely give that a try!

The the Whole Foods Hot Bar count as fast food?

  10. Wow what an amazing looking cheese sauce! And FOR ONCE I actually have the ingredients on hand…yeha, I’m making this for lunch :D
I like Nando’s, that’s kinda fast food-y – but all their meat is organic/free range etc, so it’s more guilt free! Have a good day :)

Wow your pizza looks awesome!! Humnut baked potatos are a wonderful idea!! I can’t wait to try it :-)
I’m a grape nuts fanatic- when I was trying to gain weight I seriously went through two boxes a week. It’s calorie dense but not too sweet at the same time. I like the ezicial cereal, but I though it might be even a little more bland than grape nuts.

If you come here we can go to the co-op and when I come down there you have to take me to amazing savings!! :-D

  12. LOL you are obsessed with make it or break it!! hahaha. I swear, if you weren’t tall your dream would be to be a gymnast. :) Anyways that is an interesting topping for your pizza. I usually use VERRRYYYY little cheese but that looks yum. BTW I hate to say it but I love subway!! I dunno why! maybe it’s the salty goodness of their pickles and banana peppers. Fave fast food of mine? Chick fil a. DELISH.

  13. Subway is really the only fast food restaurant I eat at– and I love it! :-)

    Pizza looks delicious!

  14. Tina says:

My favorite fast food is definitely Subway. That and Chick Fil A are really the only two I ever eat.

  16. katie says:

  20. Aah, I neeed nutritional yeast so I can try May’s recipe! I keep seeing it–but I loooove that you put it on pizza.

  21. Lily says:

The pizza idea is May’s too!

  22. Lee says:

I am also suspect of fast food meats. I almost always get the veggie delight at Subway because of it.

I’ve been meaning to try this Humnut pizza recipe.
