A few months ago, I shared my experience with caffeine addiction.
Well, I have recently kicked another habit…extreme diet soda consumption. For years, I consumed can after can, bottle after bottle of unnatural and artificially sweetened soft drinks.
After making a connection that malaise, headaches, and afternoon tiredness were connected to my excessive soda drinking, I quit the habit, cold turkey. Almost immediately, I felt better.
In recent months, I have monumentally cut back on artificial sugar substitutes. Every so often, I will eat a sugar free yogurt or indulge in a Diet Coke here and there. However, I no longer consume fake sweeteners on a daily, or even weekly, basis.
Now when I want to sweeten my coffee, I use stevia. I like it because it has zero calories and does not influence blood sugar levels like pure sugar does. Unlike sucralose and aspartame, which are created in a laboratory, stevia is a natural sweetener extracted from the stevia leaf.

The most important reason why I choose to sweeten with stevia is that I experience no side effects when I consume it. Gone are the days of artificial sweetener headaches!

So, how thrilled was I when Zevia sent me samples of their all natural, stevia sweetened sodas? (Words can’t even describe!)
I tasted the following flavors:

Twist

Cola

Orange

Ginger Root Beer

Ginger Ale

Black Cherry
I was a fan! With the exception of the orange flavor, this soda totally satisfied my soda craving. I thought the orange was lacking a bold taste, and I found it a bit watery. But I loved the other flavors! Particularly Cola and Twist, which taste quite similar to the traditional Diet Coke and Diet Sprite.
I’m sold on Zevia, and I’m ecstatic to have found an all natural, healthier soda!
I’m happy to report that while browsing the Zevia website, I learned of a new, additional flavor.

Dr. Zevia!
I have yet to see this variety at my local Whole Foods.
I hope I can get my hands on it soon!
