Exercise
Immediately after work, I headed out the door for a run. I was so ready to pound the pavement! I’ve been feeling so speedy lately. However, I made it exactly 1 mile before I decided it was waaaaay too hot to be running outside.
It wasn’t even 80 degrees outside! I’m such a weenie when it comes to exercising in the heat.
So I continued my workout inside and ellipticalled for 50 minutes.
Now I’m debating doing some quick exercise tv-guided strength training. But I’m thinking I might pass on that. I don’t want to overdo it because I’d like to rest up for an extra special exercise event that I’m participating in this weekend. (More on that tomorrow!)
Breakfast
POM Wonderful juice, Tazo mint green tea, and oats in a jar (Trader Joe’s Almond Butter with Flaxseed, to be exact.)
The POM Juice was exactly what I had expected. It tasted like pomegranates…in juice form. If you like the fruit, you’ll love the juice!
Lunch was an old staple: a sweet potato topped with chickpeas and red pepper. I added some frozen brussel sprouts to the side.
The strawberries were an unexpected treat. When I walked into my work’s kitchen, there was a huge bowl of strawberries sitting out on the table for everyone to share. These strawberries came fresh from a local strawberry patch!
Look how big! Close to the size of my sweet potato. These were sweet. So. much. better. than the strawberries sold at my local grocery store.
Dinner
Leftover lentil salad I made a couple nights ago. It contains:
- red lentils
- onion
- celery
- walnut oil
- lemon juice
- cilantro
- raisins
- turmeric
- garlic
- coriander
- lemon zest
- pine nuts
- cumin
I was rather pleased with the outcome of this dish.
Dessert
I had this humongous piece of cookie cake. Look at that icing! The icing is always my favorite part.
As always, I have not posted today’s entire assortment of eats. I simply shared the highlights.

Side note: I’m itching for a good concert to go to. I’m pretty bummed though. I checked on Pollstar, my favorite show finder, and I can find nothing of interest.
I haven’t been to a show in months. I saw The Decemberists in September and Our Lady Peace before that in August, but I’ve seen nothing since.
Question: What was the best concert you’ve ever attended? I have to say, Our Lady Peace was pretty awesome. I have followed them as a band since I was in middle school! It was absolutely remarkable to finally see them live as an adult.
And now for a somewhat embarrassing fact. The Nickelback concert I went to in high school also ranks high on my list of favorite concerts. Don’t hate!
I have despised Nickelback’s last 3 albums, and I would NOT be caught dead at one of their shows now. All of their songs sound the same! However…Curb, The State, and even Silver Side Up really weren’t half bad.
I still listen to them from time to time…
And now that I have admitted this to potentially the entire world, I’m out!

you have me craving cookie cake!! I love that stuff, too.
Haha, I’ve never been to a Nickelback concert but I went to a lot of embarrassing hair band concerts when I was like 13.
One of the best concerts that I’ve been to recently was the Flaming Lips.
My favorite concert was the Fray! It was so epic, words can not even begin to describe it
Warped Tour as a teenager probably! That lentil salad looks delish. I need to try the chickpea & sweet potato combo too!
your OIAJ looks amazingggg! fav concert-the eagles or DMB!!
I would have to say that the best concert I’ve EVER been to was Paul McCartney in Atlanta. It was at the nature conservancy in Midtown. It was AMAZING. Even in the pouring rain, hands down the best day of my life.
On a side note: AMEN to the too hot to run. I turn into such a slug when it gets hot! This is something I must take steps to get over!
hope we can get together for a rock climbing trip soon!

Hah my sister saw Nickelback the other week (not through choice though, she was forced to go!). I saw Muse in concert, they were A M A Z I N G!! Britney Spears…not so much. I saw her last Decemeber, she was quite a let down
OMG I bought strawberries a few days ago and totally forgot! Thanks for reminding me..don’t judge…I have a full fridge! Last concert was probably JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE…sorry but I’m a pop queen!!
Oh those strawberries look wonderful! Nothing beats hand-picked from a local farm. You’ve got me craving cookie cake also. I looked at my boyfriend last night and told him, umm hun, I’m going to need a cookie cake for my birthday this year…
Those damn cookie cake pix are going to be the death of me, Lily! And the sweet potato and chickpeas is something my fiance will love, so I’m gonna thank you in advance from him.
P.S. What’s all this about a boyfriend for Drama?!
ok seriously you had a great day! great day because you started off with a great workout and you had such delicious eats-especially dinner! happy friday
Concerts are one of my favorite things to do. I miss going to them more often since we have a tighter budget now and they are typically pretty expensive. The best concert I have ever been to was a Bon Jovi concert. They played for almost 3 hours straight and all the good stuff! I also loved the Aerosmith concert I went to about 5 years ago. I had front row seats and it was phenomenal, but I still think Bon Jovi put on a better show. And I was also very surprised that I like a concert I went to with some friends to see Kenny Chesney. Totally not my style, but he is a good performer.
Free local strawberries? Definitely a good day!
I’m totally with you on running in the heat. It’s 75 in VB and I’m scared, haha. Give me cold running over hot any day!
My favorite concert- Coldplay! My friend and I went to just listen outside of the amphitheater and this couple just handed us their 11th row tickets! It was amazing. I also may have attended an NKOTB concert… both last year and when I was 6. hahaha
I loooove your eats today!! First, oats in a jar, then that delicious sweet potato with chickpeas?? And then lentil salad? How divine! I’m such a fan of these hearty, healthy meals!
And cookie cake just makes you my idol. I love the concerts you mentioned. I think my favorite was Counting Crows. It was a really small venue, with general admission so I was up front and it just felt so personal. There were candles lit. Overall, a really really special event!
have a great weekend, Lily!!
Uggghhhh the heat is setting in and I HATE it! What really sucks is that I’m slated to finish couch-to-5K at the beginning of June when it’ll really start getting gross. Who wants to run a race in THAT? I can’t get over the size of that strawberry – for some reason, it seems too early for strawberries like that! And can I use a cop-out on the concert question and just say “TIGEROAR”??? Yeah, I was/am a fangirl.
The lentil salad looks so delicious! I want to make that now.
I’m such a music fan, but I hardly ever go to concerts because they are usually expensive and I’m always low on funds. Thats why I love going to see really great bands that nobody knows about, because they are less expensive and its so worth it anyway to support them. I am shelling out the money to see Band of Horses in June because I love them…I also love the Decemberists and OLP! I’m sure both of those were great.
