Hey, hey! I know I’ve been absent for the past week or so. The truth is. I’m stressed!
It’s no secret that I’ve had a rough couple of week as I’ve alluded to my distress a few times in previous posts:
Why am I stressed? You ask.
Well, remember how I just graduated? With graduate school and my internship complete (as of Friday), I need a job! And let’s just say…job hunting is getting the best of me.
I am overwhelmed with applications, interviews, phone calls, traveling, and the most dreaded thing of all…wait.
All of this has taken quite a toll. Let’s just say, I certainly haven’t felt like myself. (Something must be wrong if my body doesn’t feel like exercising or eating!)

Ok, enough lamenting for one post! Honestly, I have many blessings in my life to be happy about. The key is to remember them under times of great stress.
So, I’m taking a cue from Diana and dedicating tonight’s blog to some of many things I am thankful for.
5 Things I’m Thankful For
1) Stephen
Stephen is my buddy! Although he doesn’t necessarily share my passion, he puts up with my health nut tendencies and is even willing to be featured on my blog from time to time. He’s a good boyfriend.
Curious about how we met? Read The Stephen Post.
2. My Education
Receiving my MA+ degree took much time and effort. But I am proud of my accomplishments. And thankfully I’ve chosen a specialty that is still somewhat in demand, despite the slow economy.
3. My Family
I’m thankful for my sissy and her beautiful family. What would and auntie do without a niece and nephew?
And of course, I am grateful for two wonderful and healthy parents. (Excuse the picture. This is me before junior prom. It’s the only photo of my dad I could find on this computer.)
4. Irvin and Beatrice
Duh. You all knew I couldn’t forget to mention my fondness for my furry fam.
5. My Health
I have been a lifelong exerciser and never once have I suffered a serious injury. I’m blessed with a strong body that can do things like run marathons and participate in fitness expos.
Speaking of exercise, guess what class I will be participating in tomorrow?
If you guessed Body Attack, then you would be correct! I can’t wait. It’s been too long!

Sorry for the hiatus, friends. But never fear…LHP is back in business!
Bloggers: Do you ever need a break from blogging to de-stress?
Readers: Do you ever need to take a break from blog reading?

I think it’s totally normal to be stressed out by the thought of having to job hunt. You’ll get through it.
And yes, definitely, sometimes I don’t feel like blogging and I just don’t. And I sometimes just mark all my google reader as read.
i gave myself a break this weekend…also my posts have been semi lame lately cause of my “slump”. I hope you feel better. Do what you have to do in life FIRST then taking pics of food can come later. You have an amazing support system and a good head on your shoulders. You’ll be fine. Let me know if you need anything!! PS. did you ever model? HAWWTTTTT pics.
I think we all need breaks from time to time. I don’t think people realie at first how time consuming blogging can be and to make it be fun and enjoyable I think you have to take regular breaks! It is the same with exercise in my opinion!
Try not to stress about the job…one will come. I have faith!
Thank you all! Your comments were really sweet and brightened my day.
Hey. I just started a food blog based around my graduate student life. So I understand the stress. I have my thesis defense/oral exam tomorrow for my Master’s and I’m freaking out. I move back to Indiana to start my PhD soon, so I’m stressed about future stresses. Being a student is stressful
. I’m sure things will get better, they always seem to.
Have a good day!
Yes, I take breaks all the time because I can only stand so much jabber about health, weight loss, calories, veggies, etc etc etc! I love healthy living but talking and reading about it constantly is a sure way to get burn out on it (or blogging, at least).
I often feel like I need to take breaks, but then I never get round to it!!
Good on you for taking one
How tall are you btw? You look quite tall in the prom photo, and I just wondered cos I’m 5ft9 myself
Ashley @ thehungry scholar, where in Indiana are you going to work on your PhD? Lily’s family (except Lily who was born in Wisconsin) is all from Indiana – the very Southern part. Good luck with it.
Lily, I am glad to see you back blogging and feeling better about life. You will see, things will work out well for you soon, and you will have wondered “Why all the stress?” This was a very nice blog and we ALL should count our blessings from time to time.
P.S. All your family, including Beatrice and Irvin, have great faith in you, so go get ‘em, girl.
I know your stress. I’m going through the exact same thing right now. It’s a head game for sure…one minute I’m a ball o’ stress, the next I’m elated with the gifts I have.
If there’s anything I can do to help with your job search or with anything for that matter, I’m here.
Like the other commenters said – it is totally fine to take a break when you need it! I don’t think that people realize the responsibility that comes with blogging. Since our blogs are reflections of ourselves, it sometimes feels like everything has to be “perfect,” and that’s a lot of pressure! Not to mention the time that goes into thinking of a post idea, actually writing the post, visiting other blogs, etc. And, as healthy living bloggers, it’s important to realize that taking breaks to de-stress IS healthy! So I totally know where you’re coming from, and think that you did the right thing by taking a short hiatus
I love that last photo of you running! I always need a break from blogging and reading blogs. Today is the first day I’ve read blogs in over a week! I vowed to not do any blog reading while on vacation
I think it’s totally normal to take a break from blogging to de-stress. Good luck with your job search!
I am so sorry you are feeling stressed! Youa re right to think of the blessings in life when things get hard. Waiting is SO hard, I am so going through that right now!
Totally understand, you are not alone! We all need good breaks every once in awhile. We just got back from a vacay and while of course I didn’t want to come back, it was just the thing to get me motivated again
so many wonderful things to be thankful for! Deep breaths and remember everything WILL be okay and you will find something good!
I take breaks from blogging all the time. I think a lot of us get caught up in our blogs and treat them like a full time job..i know i did! Sometimes it’s really helpful for me to unplug for a while and live my life outside of the blog world.
Good luck with the job search, I know how stressful that is!
Sister,
Thank you for being thankful for me. I waited a long time to be a sister:) I am sorry you are so stressed out and know that I was thinking of you a lot.
I just finished graduate school and I’m job searching also. I know your pain. I feel like I’m wasting time exercising when I should be completing job apps. It’s so draining! My bf just finished grad school too, but he’s a lot more laid back about the whole process. We are doing so much traveling in the next 2 weeks for interviews & it freaks me out that it may all be for a rejection.
I wish you the best of luck. Just know that you are not alone & if you ever need to vent feel free to email me.
I’m sending positive vibes your way.
