Francis Beidler Forest

Hey, hey!  Anyone else watch the Kate Plus 8 debut?

I’m not sure which ‘do is worse…

Short and spiky OR long and fake?

Honestly, I’m not a Kate hater, as many are.  I do, however, have major issues with her hair and clothing style, especially as of late.

But anyway…

Stephen and I have been enjoying our summertime.  The sunny weather and warm days have been enticing us to spend our time outdoors.  During the past week, we’ve had the opportunity to visit several parks on our “to go” list.

Francis Beidler Forest

The Beidler Forest includes 1,800 acres of old-growth swamp forest.  Many of the trees in the swamp are 1,000 years old. Stephen had visited as a child, and he has wanted to go back for some time now.

For an $8 fee, Stephen and I were admitted to walk a 1.75 mile nature trail.

Most of the hike consists of walking on an elevated boardwalk.

The key is to walk slowly and quietly in hopes that a glimpse of an animal can be seen.

Stephen and I got lucky!

We spotted the rarest of the 5 types of snakes living in the swamp.

The Red-Bellied Water Snake!

Other interesting wildlife was spotted.

It was a very eclectic mix. :-)

All in all, Stephen and I had a wonderful experience at the swamp.  I don’t know about you, but I’d never been to a swamp before this trip!  Very cool.

Goodnight all!

P.S.  Last week, I secured a job:-)   A very good job.  Thank Heavens!  I am a very lucky gal.  Thank you all so much for your kind words on my last post.

Question:  Do you enjoy hiking?  Where is your favorite place on earth to enjoy nature?

  2. Jen says:

Congrats on your job Lily! That’s wonderful news!

That forest looks so nice! I’ve spent a lot of time hiking in the Upstate but I’ve never been down there. I think the Southwest, particularly Arizona, is just breathtaking!

  3. Kat says:

I just recently visited my first swamp, too! It’s like another world out there – so beautiful! CONGRATS on finding a job, girl! I’m so happy for you!

  4. Shelley says:

i like long & fake better, but i actually feel kind of bad for Kate! idk i’m so easily swayed so i think listening to her defend herself got to me haha.

  9. Congrats on the job!!! Wahooo!

Ok, I do not love Kate or her hair…her kids? Yes, I love each and everyone of them.

  10. Ashley says:

Wow, major congrats on the job! That didn’t take long! I hope you’re moving farther South. ;)

  11. Anne says:

Congrats on a job! I’m not a “huge” nature person, but enjoy it every once in a while. Yellowstone in Winter was absolutely GORGEOUS!

I used to watch J&K+8. I thought their kids were ADORABLE! Then, out of principle, I stopped when the marriage started to fall apart. I’m not a big Kate fan, although I’m beginning to see both sides.

  12. YAAY! for the job, you must be thrilled!!
Gosh I’m annoyed – I added your blog to my google reader but it didn’t tell me you’d posted :(
Oh, and the short spiky hair is WAAAAAYY worse!!

  13. Katherine says:

ahh wildlife creeps me out. I wish I could enjoy it haha but I shamefully don’t. I don’t think I’d go for either hair-do; all forms of mullets are to be shunned.

congrats on job security! what a great thing to have

  14. That swamp looks awesome. I think i’d love exploring there. CONGRATS on the job!! hell yeah!!!
