Over Budget

I went a bit crazy at the grocery store this past week.

$19.11 over budget.

Part of the overspending occurred because my roadside stand was MIA this week.  I have NO IDEA where it went.  I drove by Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday….no freezer truck and no stand.  Crossing my fingers it comes back this week.  My wallet can’t handle grocery store produce prices.

Unfortunately, I needed my fruits and veggies, so grocery store produce prices were my only option this week.

  • 5 lb box of Cuties (had $1.50 off coupon)
  • Macintosh apples (they looked the most like my all time fave, Rome)
  • Acorn squash
  • Cantaloupe
  • Asparagus
  • Spaghetti squash
  • Mini peppers

Another reason for my gratuitous spending…impulse buys!

I certainly didn’t need these Alexia fries OR these faux meat products.  But they were all things I’ve been wanting to try AND they were on sale.  Couldn’t contain myself.

Nor could I contain myself from these chips.  Because, you know, I plan on eating 3 bags of chips this week.

Thankfully, I did remain somewhat level-headed in the presence of Kroger’s intense food selection.  I remembered to buy the usual staples.

  • Coconut milk (It was on sale.  Thought I’d switch it out for my regular almond milk.)
  • Cheese
  • Organic butter
  • Organic eggs
  • Yogurt (all on sale)

75 cents for Fage?  I snatched that baby up!

I know I was over budget this week, but the last two weeks I’ve been under.  I’m fairly certain it will all even out.

Lesson learned: stick to the darn list!

  1. Produce prices have been KILLING me lately. I can’t wait for the farmers market to open up.

I love Alexia brand stuff, even though it wasn’t on the list, I would stock up if it were on sale, You can always adjust your budget for the next trip to call it even. Those Sweet Potato chips are my weakness!

  2. Ahh sticking to the list is a tough one! I went for spinach, milk, and bananas today and walked out with chocolate frozen yogurt. Whoops!

You’ve been so good with sticking to the budget, no big that you went over this one time ;) Plus, who can resist new goodies on sale??

  4. Hey Lily, I love silk soy milk but I have never tried the coconut milk… may have to try it. Silk sometimes has coupons on their website so that might help you out!

I love roadside stands! I hope yours comes back. If I go over my grocery budget, it’s always because of impulse buys. You didn’t go too out of control!

  6. I found a coupon for the So Delicious coconut milk and was all excited to buy it this week, but my grocery store didn’t have it! What?!?

I finally bought sunflower seed butter this weekend as an impulse purchase because it was on sale…it’s so good!

  8. We can’t help ourselves around new products!!! Ahhhhhhhh!! I wonder if those boulder chips have a factory tour…

  9. $69 isn’t so bad! I can easily spend well over $100 in one week. I’d say you did well!

    @Emily, I’m all about online coupons. I just don’t have a printer…

I need to go to Kroger! I get into a rut with Publix, but it makes shopping easy because I zero in on the “Things i’ve been waiting to go on sale” pretty easily.
